Knights, Lovers, a Demon and….a Bear

Music inspired by Lord Byron, William Blake, Alfred de Musset and Shakespeare in a program of works for viola and piano from Baroque to present day

Violist Patricia McCarty will present a program spanning styles from Baroque to avant-garde, several inspired by literature and art, including the romantic Joachim Hebrew Melodies (Lord Byron’s poems of this name), impressionist Rebecca Clarke Sonata (Alfred de Musset Nuit de Mai), dramatic John Hawkins Urizen (William Blake’s drawings and poem), beloved Prokofiev Romeo & Juliet, and a new work by Burlington, VT, composer Matthew Browne entitled Exit, Pursued by a Bear (The Winter’s Tale). Rounding out the program will be Locatelli’s Sonata in G Minor and American composer Tibor Serly’s Rhapsody on Folk Songs harmonized by Bartok.

Piano by Nature will present these two shows at the Historic Hand House in Elizabethtown, NY on Saturday, November 7th at 7PM and Sunday, November 8th, 2015. Tickets are $15 per adult, with $5 tickets for all students 15-and-under. Family rates may be requested for larger groups. From Bach to Keith Jarrett, Patricia McCarty’s performances on five continents have been acclaimed for communicating “a dark tone analogous to the quality of a fine tawny port” [Strad], & “the fine blue-flamed torch of her mind” [Ottawa Citizen]. Her recordings featuring works by Clarke, Bach, Telemann, Schubert, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Fuchs, Joachim, Jarrett, Bliss, Harrison and Benjamin have won international awards, including Gramophone’s “Critics’ Choice” and Strad “Selection CD”. Former assistant principal violist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, she is presently a member of the Meadowmount School of Music faculty and a resident of New Russia.

Hsiao-Ling Lin, Piano
A native of Taiwan, pianist Hsiao-Ling Lin enjoys an active performing career as a collaborative pianist in such prestigious halls as the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie in New York, Isabella Stewart Garden Museum and Jordan Hall in Boston, Harvard Musical Association in Cambridge, the Chicago Symphony Hall and Chicago Cultural Center, Sendai Cultural Center in Japan, and the Rachmaninoff Hall in Russia. Her performances have been broadcasted live over the TV and radio stations, and she has collaborated in recitals with many artists including Lynn Chang, Nai-Yuan Hu, Lynn Harrell, Matt Haimovitz, Carol Wincenc, Basil Reeve, Kenneth Grant, Steve Cohen, as well as members of the Tackas String Quartet and Ysaye String Quartet. Most recently, she has completed a tour of recitals in Asia and Europe with trombonist Peter Steiner.
